Welcome to My World of Finnish Myths and Nature

Chit Chat

How long have you been into photography?

I've been photographing since I was a teen so... over 20-years.

What else do you do and is photography your main profession?

I work full-time as an artist and entrepreneur, and have been doing so for three years now.

You might have noticed that I don't label myself as a "photographer", instead I like to use "artist"; it gives me more room and freedom both explore and combine different fields.

As storytelling and Finnish myths are equally important part of my work than photography and editing, artist suits me better.

Besides providing you high-quality fine art photographs I'm also writing my first book (series) - which has been a big dream of mine! So excited it's finally on it's way. Can you guess the theme...

I'm also looking forward for getting back with speaking gigs.

What did you do before you started your own company?

I used to work in IT and marketing as well as in customer service in high-value stores like Iittala and jewelry store.

What's your education?

I actually have six of them! Yes, you can rightfully call me learning junkie - I love to learn and educate myself and am a firm believer that all knowledge is beneficial.

And I could say all my my previous studies do help me serve my clients and my business better.

My degree in Interior Design gives me tools to guide my clients with their choices as well as creating beautiful exhibitions.

My degrees in web design/coding means I can build and manage my own stores professionally.

Marketing studies means I can handle all my marketing needs - which means more authentic messaging as it is just me talking to you.

My Copywriters degree gives me writing knowledge as well my many other writing courses.

It's easy to say that if you don't end up working in that field for the rest of your life it was a "mistake" but I don't feel like that at all. All learning gives you so much and can and will help you no matter where you are.

Just learn! Have fun!

Will I return to school benches? Who knows. Right now I'm good with my courses and books so no other plans at this moment.

What gear you use?

I currently use Canon 5D Mark IV, old but gold. Love that camera. It's big, weighty, sturdy old school camera that provides everything I need (and more).

For lenses I use a variety of them but my most used and loved one is Sigma 105mm Macro lens.

Do you use AI?

NO!

I edit my photos to meet my artistic visions and the myths they represent but I NEVER use AI generated images.

For me, art and AI doesn't belong together. At all.

Art needs to have a soul - and no robot can bring such as it simply doesn't have one.

It's not about perfection. Perfection is boring. Trying to create "perfect art" is like trying to be a "perfect human being"; nice in theory but shallow and lifeless. It's the imperfections and oddities that we love, it's what makes us "us" and that same applies to art.

What is your favorite season and why?

I have to say fall (how original!).

I love the crisp fall mornings, vibrant leafs, sunny days and dark evenings, amber skies. Candles and blankets, tea mugs and books. The slowing pace after busy summer days.

Do you like animals or own any pets?

I ADORE all animals, big or small, four legs, multiple legs, no legs... For me all life is special and valuable.

I share my flat with 14-year-old British Shorthair cat named Lara - and yes, she's more of a roomie than a "pet". She's the chairman.

But I've also had pet rats, horse (arabian filly), even snails as a kid. My mom was a dog person through and through, when I was born we had four of them...

And I do think growing up with animals and especially horses is extremely beneficial. You learn how to control your emotions, be in charge, put someone else's needs before your own (I mean, no matter how tired, wet, hungry you are - you always take care ot the horse first!), responsibility, hard work and certain level of gentle leadership too.

Do you have any hobbies?

I love to paint, it's a great way to reset my brain and get all junk out of my system.

I also like to move my body (walking, pilates, barre, yoga) on daily basis. Especially evening yoga is so important! Skipping that affects automatically my sleep and well-being.

Reading is a old hobby of mine, I always read before turning the lights of and quite often during the day too (although these are usually related to myths and are considered as "work").

I wouldn't call cooking a hobby but I do cook all my meals and kinda enjoy it. I don't like to do anything fancy, I'm more of a curry/soup/stew kinda gal.

But other than that I just spend time with my family, with my cat and so on.

When's your next exhibition?

I am currently searching the next perfect place to host a exhibition so stay tuned (sign-up to my newsletter! I will share the dates and locations in there as well as show a lot of behind-the-scenes content).

If you know a good place or are a gallerist and interested in working with me to create a stunning exhibition - just send me a message!

I am currently also working to build you virtual gallery experience.
